The series finale deliberately wraps its major arcs: McNulty's fabricated serial killer case is exposed and contained, Bubbles finally achieves sobriety and re-acceptance, and Marlo walks away from the corner. The show intentionally ends with the drug game continuing under new players like Michael and Slim Charles, but this cyclical ending is a thematic statement, not an unresolved cliffhanger. The final season's newspaper subplot is the weakest thread, yet the overall conclusion lands as intended.

The Wire ran five seasons with a planned conclusion rather than being cancelled, and it's widely regarded as one of the greatest TV dramas ever made. Its finale resolves the major storylines while delivering the show's thematic message about institutional failure. The slow-burn pacing demands patience, but the payoff is widely considered worth it.
