Season 8’s “My Finale” gives J.D.’s story a heartfelt sendoff. Season 9 shifts focus toward a new group of medical students and was canceled after one season, but it doesn’t undo the original finale’s closure.

The original run has a satisfying, emotionally complete finale that makes the journey worthwhile. The later ninth season is a less essential continuation and ends less definitively.
